Motor Trend Rumor: Mini NSX in Acura’s Future

Nsx_615_2012_09_24_01

Motor Trend sources say a small version of the upcoming Acura NSX could be in the works, arriving a year or two after the 2015 NSX. The “Mini NSX” would obviously be smaller in size and less powerful, but could potentially share some of the new technologies and parts being developed for the new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD NSX. Priced in the range of $50,000 to $60,000, the Mini NSX would be a more affordable option to the “real” NSX which is estimated to cost approximately $130,000.

The rendering above from Japanese “car scoop” magazine Holiday Auto gives a rough idea of what the Mini NSX could look like. Notice the artist kept the Honda badge, but chose to incorporate the Acura grille.

Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Check and top off fluids

1

Autumn is also a good time to check your level of antifreeze ($10 to $16 per gallon) in the coolant recovery reservoir. In this car maintenance move, if you find that you are below the required minimum stamped onto the side of that opaque container, add the appropriate quantity of properly diluted fluid to that reservoir and not to the radiator. Make sure that you use the correct fluid because green and orange antifreeze/coolant cannot be mixed.

Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Change your wiper blades

1

Wiper blades should be replaced annually every fall. Fortunately, replacing wiper blades as part of car maintenance is very easy and requires no tools. They cost from $10 to $20. Be aware that some cars will require same-sized blades for the driver and passenger sides, while others will require a longer blade for the driver-side wiper. So, be sure to consult the in-store sizing guide to buy the right ones. And don't forget to buy a third blade if you own a hatchback, station wagon or SUV, with a wiper for the rear window.

[PHOTO GALLERY]: Vossen Wheels Gallery - Acura TL on VVSCV2

It’s been a bit too long since I last featured a Vossen Gallery, so here’s a fresh one hot out of the oven that you’re guaranteed to love.

I don’t know much about the build, but the 20″ Matte Graphite CV2s are looking mighty good on this stealthy black 4G TL. The shots and the editing came together nicely for this gallery, they combine for an eerie, ghostly feel that match the car perfectly.

All-New 2013 Acura ILX Joins Acura Line-Up of IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK Vehicles

Six vehicles in Acura’s current line-up have garnered an IIHS 2012 TOP SAFETY PICK rating

Img_0147a

The all-new 2013 Acura ILX has received the highest possible safety rating of TOP SAFETY PICK from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting vehicle occupants involved in front, side and rear crashes, plus rollover performance based on ratings in the Institute's tests.

The all-new 2013 ILX, along with the 2013 RDX and 2012 TL, MDX, and TSX sedan and Sport Wagon, have all earned IIHS 2012 TOP SAFETY PICK ratings and the highest possible score of GOOD in all four Institute tests, including the rigorous roof-strength test.

All models in the current Acura line up utilize the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. ACE is an exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal crashes. The ACE design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment.

Further, standard safety equipment on all Acura models includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, anti-lock brakes, dual-stage/multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags with passenger side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

Acura's belief in "Safety Through Innovation" is the foundation for the brand's commitment to leadership in safety— and excellent safety is a paramount element in every new vehicle that Acura builds. Acura’s goal is for all models to provide a high level of safety regardless of size or the price of the vehicle.

Acura Announces Pricing for 2013 TL

2013 TL goes on sale with GOOD rating in IIHS Small Overlap Frontal Barrier Crash Test

2013_acura_tl_01

The 2013 Acura TL goes on sale today with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $35,905. Boosting its value on a luxury scale, the TL luxury sedan recently earned the top-level rating of GOOD in the new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) small overlap frontal barrier crash test.

The new IIHS small overlap frontal barrier crash test is designed to simulate a collision between a vehicle traveling 40 miles per hour and a fixed object, such as a utility pole, where only 25 percent of the vehicle's front structure is engaged by the opposing object. According to a 2009 study by the IIHS, such small overlap crashes accounted for nearly 25 percent of frontal crashes resulting in a serious injury or fatality. The TL was one of only two vehicles to achieve the highest rating of "Good" among a group of 11 models that were the first to be tested under this rigorous new crash test protocol.

The 2013 TL is offered with two drivetrain configurations, a front-wheel drive version and an all-wheel drive version. The front-wheel drive TL is powered by an all-aluminum, 3.5-liter, 24-valve, VTEC® V-6 engine that produces 280 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque. The all-wheel drive version of the TL utilizes Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system and comes equipped with an all-aluminum,  3.7-liter, 24-valve, VTEC®  V-6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Both versions come equipped with a Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission as standard. For the enthusiast, a 6-speed manual transmission is available for the 2013 TL SH-AWD equipped with the Technology Package.

The 2013 TL comes well-equipped with standard features such as Xenon HID headlights, halogen fog lights, a power moonroof, a 276-watt audio system with 8-speakers, and aluminum wheels, sized at 17x8 inches for the TL and 18x8 inches for the TL SH-AWD. The Technology Package adds features such as an 8-inch VGA display, Acura Navigation System with 60 gigabyte hard disk drive, perforated Premium Leather seating, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™ and 440-watt ELS Surround® Premium Audio System with 10-speakers. The Advance Package adds features such as heated and ventilated front seats, Blind Spot Information System, and upsized aluminum wheels, sized at 18x8 inches for the TL and 19x8 inches for the TL SH-AWD.

Standard safety equipment on all Acura models includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, ABS, dual-stage/multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags, side curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

The 2013 TL is produced using domestically and globally sourced parts at the Honda of America Manufacturing Marysville Auto Plant1 in Marysville, Ohio, recipient of the J.D. Power and Associates' Silver Plant Quality Award in its 2012 Initial Quality Study.
